    He tied a hook to the end of a rope, put some meat on it and threw it into the sea to catch that fish.

    4. What did Hans catch in the sea?

    He caught an extinct fish.



    5. What was strange about the fish that Hans caught?

    It had a flat head, but it had no tail or eyes. It was an extinct fish.



    6. What creatures did Axel expect to find on Lidenbrock Sea?

    He thought that they might see lizards, whales or birds that lived on the Earth millions of years ago.



    7. How did the Professor try to know the depth of the sea?

    He tided the pickaxe to the end of a rope and threw it into the sea.



    8. How did they know that the Lidenbrock Sea was deep?

    The pickaxe, tied to the long rope didn't touch the bottom.

    He suggested that they should have lowered the sail and taken down the mast.

    He wanted the storm to take them away.

    It blows them forward for three days.

    A ball of fire appeared in the sky; it went straight towards their raft and hit the raft making blue flames. Then Axel fainted.

    They found bones of extinct animals and skull of a human.

    They were frightened and they ran back to their raft on Lidenbrock Sea.

    He could recognize them from pictures in his science books.

    He was more than three meters tall and had a long hair.

    He was looking after the mammoths.

    21. Although he was not afraid of the mammoths, the Professor was afraid of the huge shepherd.

    22. When they saw the giant shepherd, they were afraid and they ran back to the raft.
