Mr. Ragab said to Rashid, “where are you going?”
Mr. Ragab asked Rashid where he was going.

“Are you staying long, Nabil?” asked Salim
Salim asked Nabil if he was staying long.
To change from direct to indirect follow the following steps:-
1. We omit said to and bring asked.
2. We omit the brackets. We use the question word (wh questions) or (if or whether) if it's a Yes / No question.
3. We put the verb and the subject as if it is a statement not a question (wh question / if + sub + verb).
4. We omit the question mark and it became a full stop.

 Sabry said to Shaker, “where are you going next summer holiday?”
Sabry asked Shaker where he was going the next summer holiday.

 The doctor said to Samir, “How long have you been suffering from this pain?”
The doctor asked Samir how long he had been suffering from that pain.

 I said to my younger sister, “Did you finish you work?”
I asked my sister if she had finished her work.
